Grade before you decide
| Grade | Typical outcome |
|---|---|
| Unopened / open-box | Bulk resale |
| Used, working | Bulk resale or remarketing |
| Faulty / incomplete | Component recovery |
| Damaged / end of life | Recycling |
Guide
Grade, bulk-sell, recover or recycle returns that can't be restocked.
Short answer
Returns that cannot be restocked should be graded rather than discarded: open-box and lightly used items can often be sold in bulk, faulty units may yield parts, and only the remainder needs recycling. Data-bearing returns should go through data destruction first.
| Grade | Typical outcome |
|---|---|
| Unopened / open-box | Bulk resale |
| Used, working | Bulk resale or remarketing |
| Faulty / incomplete | Component recovery |
| Damaged / end of life | Recycling |
Phones, laptops, storage and smart devices may come back with a customer's data on them. Route those devices to data destruction — USACA destroys data-bearing devices at its own facilities with serialized reporting.
